Peshtigo River – Wisconsin

CCC Bridge to Burnt Bridge
Beginner/Intermediate

This segment can be quite fun for the novice, and intermediate level paddlers seeking moderate challenges of low to medium hazard rapids and boulder gardens.

This river has it’s own rugged, scenic character; beautiful, rocky and narrow, with pine, cedar, and hemlock trees frequently overhanging the banks.

The Peshtigo is one of my favorite day tripping rivers. It always takes me back to my college days traveling through the Black Forest of Germany. The tannic waters, impenetrable darkness of the forest, cool breezes, overhanging branches of the Nicolet National Forest; it truly is a magical experience. An excellent section for those transitioning from flat water to moving water. Beginner and intermediate level paddlers seeking moderate challenges of low to medium hazard rapids and boulder gardens will enjoy this section of river.

Burnt Bridge - F.S. Road 2136
Intermediate/Advanced

This section begins to show a little more of the rugged whitewater character it is famous for. There are numerous rapids which tend to be long and challenging through narrow rocky banks. First, Michigan Rapids, a scenic class 2-3 followed by a series of class 1-2 rapids. A break in the action and then the Upper Dells and then the Dells Rapids. Both rate class 2-3 and often require good maneuvering skills.

Farm Dam - Co. Road C
Advanced

This section is also known as the ‘roaring rapids’ and has some of the most unique whitewater features in the entire midwest. Considered by some to be the premier whitewater run in Wisconsin, and is highly recommended for advanced level whitewater kayakers and canoeists. First, Second, Third Drops, Five-Foot Falls, Horserace Rapids and S-Curve Rapids are a few of the more notable rapids to challenge even the most experienced paddlers. This section is recommended for canoeists and kayakers with ACA level III or higher paddling skills. Scouting and good whitewater reading skills are important here!

Please Note: We are very flexible and can instruct on any of these sections in any order to fit your specific needs and/or objectives.
